I’ve just done something I wouldn’t have been able to do before: I took a well-written scene from my book and just… cut the whole thing out.
Why? Because during the re-write, all the information in that scene became redundant. I realized that the scene existed to dump a whole bunch of information, and while it was good information, it’s far, far handier spread out through the book than in one place.
I think I’m really going to be able to work this into a stand-alone novel while still maintaining a decent wordcount.
