It’s been a while, hasn’t it?

Thanks for sticking around.

Short Story News

Notte thought to hide from the world, to punish himself by being alone.

The world – including a power-hungry emperor – has other ideas.

Do you hear the chimes, my friend? I do, and they should not be ringing.

There is a specific timbre to these tones, borne to me upon the Wind; it is a great and terrible magic, familiar though long-unheard. Both the instruments and their tune have been forgotten—I personally saw that they would be, for their use had grown too savage, too cruel, too bloodied even for my Night-King taste.

These chimes can only be rung from the hollowed-out bones of a Red Dragon. Who dares wield such instruments to call to me?

And oh, they are calling.

Book News

I finally began laying out all my ideas for future books, and realized I have WAY more than one series going.

In fact, I have four.

Current:

AMONG THE MYTHOS: Contemporary fantasy series starring runaway Fey princes, parallel worlds, ancient warriors, and know-it-all brats.

HOPE OF HUMANITY: Soft sci-fi following several groups of humans who fled a dying earth – an earth drowning in non-human invaders. Naturally, their search for new homes does not go as planned.

Upcoming:

AFTER DEATH: If you thought the worlds were vast on this side of the grave, just wait.

A MATTER OF MYSTERY: A clustered mess of murders and thefts, reincarnated detectives, and unrequited, aromantic love. What can I say? Fate is complicated. SERIES PAGEPersonal stuff, very quickly (you’re here for the stories, after all).

Personal Update

I’ll keep this brief. You’re here for the stories, after all.

1. I dropped out of sight to take care of my aunt, who was dying from ALS.

2. The ALS won. It always wins; but I’m deeply grateful for the chance to have given her some joy, even on that difficult path.

3. And then pandemic. Um…

2020 was the craziest year yet, but if you’re reading this, then you survived.

Somehow, so did I.

We’ll make it through, one way or another. I’m glad to be alongside you here. Maybe I can even distract you a bit.

Again, thanks for sticking around. I promise the upcoming stories will make it worthwhile.

Ruthanne

A three-times bestselling author, Ruthanne Reid has led a convention panel on world-building, taught courses on plot and character development, and been the keynote speaker for the Write Practice Retreat. Author of two series with five books and fifty-plus short stories, Ruthanne has lived in her head since childhood, when she wrote her first story about a pony princess and a genocidal snake-kingdom and used up her mom’s red typewriter ribbon in the process. When she isn’t reading, writing, or reading about writing, Ruthanne enjoys old cartoons with her husband and two cats, and dreams of living on an island beach far, far away. P.S. Red is still her favorite color.
