The world is a swamp of black water and sparse civilization. Harry's family has searched for the solution - a device called the Hope of Humanity - for generations, but until now were searching blind. The day comes that Harry manages to capture and subdue the leader of the Sundered Ones, insane but powerful beings that alone can enter the black water safely. At last, he can find the Hope - but the Hope is not what he was told.

1. Alex - [Sample Chapter]

 

Twelve year old Alex doesn't know what he is, but he knows he needs to leave. Fleeing means the unknown - entering the outside world, of which he's been purposely kept ignorant - but staying means becoming his home's prime attraction, especially now that he's grown wings. Rather than follow his mother's footsteps into a lifetime of selling his body, he flees to Scotland, barely able to control his wings and with no idea where he's going.

There, he finally finds people like him - the mythos, the world's magic users and makers - they're too busy to welcome him. The Wild Hunt is out of control, and the Tohu – a military organization bent on the destruction of all life – has targeted the Unseelie fey. Driven by protective instinct, Alex propels himself into the fray, and saves the life of the Unseelie king. Unfortunately, he also draws the attention of the Tohu. Twelve years old or not, Alex is determined to protect the Unseelie fey, but he may not be enough. Weakened by stolen magic and regicide, the fey will need more than one strange boy with wings to keep them alive.

The Wild Hunt's erratic behavior is getting worse, and Owen is trying to bring the mythos together to fight them. Unfortunately, no one takes the Unseelie fey seriously anymore, and he's being ignored - but not by all. Someone strange has begun to visit the children of the Unseelie fey, promising freedoms that lure them from their beds so they disappear without a trace. Alex, always protective, plans to save them all, but his efforts only seem to hinder the investigation. When his friend Caelan announces he wants to move away, it seems like Alex's chance for a graceful exit, but Caelan doesn't want him to come.

Being told he can't help hurts Alex in a way he barely understands, so when the Tohu suddenly claim to have information about his father, he jumps at the bait. Every choice has consequences, and Alex thinks he's counted the cost. Unfortunately, he has a lot more to lose than he knows.

Detective Maggie Terrace is trying to crack open a kidnapping case and doesn't have time for the romatic attentions of a figment of her imagination. Seelie fay prince, Aiden, is not only real, but only pretends to be childlike. His tendency to love humans has gotten him in trouble on numerous occasions - but at least he had the good sense never to fall for a cop before.
