Post image for Inspiration Time

See this photo? It makes me think of my story.

My book has nothing to do rusted angels, or sculptures, or nifty cars (though there are wings involved). This picture inspires me anyway. Something about the whimsical nature of this – the randomness, the work it took to achieve, the vision involved, even the oddness of fantastic wings over legs that are out of proportion. Looking at this makes my story feel alive. So what about you? Are there any images that inspire you? Post them! Let’s make ourselves a thread of pure visual inspiration!

You really want to know? I get inspired by reading stuff on Wikipedia, especially things to do with chemistry and physics. Which is odd, because I was never very good at either of those things, and never even took chemistry in high school (let alone went any further in it)

Images? Mostly images with people. images from newspapers that tell heart-rending stories of awful things that have happened to people, things like: a sodden teddybear in a field after a flood where people drowned, a wife and a mistress hugging each other at the funeral of their man, a picture of a half-drowned fisherman being winched into a helicopter after having been swept out to sea. Long queues of people lining up for food and water. Stuff like that.

Excellent! I love Wikipedia, too – getting into one of those “ooh, what’s THAT reference” links can be so utterly fun and inspiring.

Those images sound amazing. Have you produced any stories directly tied to them, or just used the general feel?
